Euro-toques have announced their five finalists in Ireland’s most distinguished culinary competition making Ireland one step closer to discovering the Euro-toques Young Chef of the Year winner 2013.

Chosen by a panel of well-known chef’s and judges, the five finalists in the Euro-toques Young Chef of the Year 2013 competition are:

Mark Moriarty – The Greenhouse
Kevin Burke – Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud
Paula Leavy – Locks Brasserie
Brian O’Flaherty – Restaurant Forty One
Grainne O’Keefe – Pichet

At a special pop-up event, to be held on Monday 4th November in Cooks Academy, a leading Irish cookery school on South William Street Dublin, the finalists will showcase their talents for the judges, well-known chefs and invited guests. Your memory on a plate in a Gastro Pub Style is the theme of the day and each chef will cook using his or her chosen main ingredient from a local producer, farmer or fisherman. Using this main ingredient, that reminds them of a food memory, they will whip up scrumptious Gastro Pub Food for guests to enjoy!

There will be a limited number of spaces available to the public to attend this special event on Monday 4th November, which will be given away to the public via Twitter between now and Thursday 30th October. Follow @youngchef2013 and tweet your favourite food memory, including hashtag #irishfoodmemories for your chance to win this money-can’t-buy place. Winners will get a tweet back to confirm that they have won on Saturday 2nd November.

In association with Failte Ireland, the competition aims to search for Ireland’s young food heroes that can contribute to developing Irish cooking and promoting it at home and abroad.

The final of the Euro-toques Young Chef of the Year will take place on Sunday 24 November and the winner will be revealed at an exclusive event that evening.

Judges for the final will include Elena Arzak, Best female Chef in the World in 2012 and joint head chef of three Michelin stared restaurant Arzak alongside her father Juan Mari Arzak.

The Euro-toques Young Chef of the Year 2013 will win a stage at ALMA, the International School of Italian cuisine in Colorno Italy, headed by world renowned chef Gualtiero Marchesi, amongst other exciting opportunities.
